These harder-to-make lightweight Apple AR glasses shouldn’t be confused with the rumored Apple AR/VR headset that could come as soon as this Spring or at WWDC in June. By then, we’ll have a full Sony PSVR 2 review (it launches on February 22), and that’s more along the line of what I expect to see from Apple in 2023.
Apple’s AR headset reportedly won’t arrive until 2022, followed by AR glasses in 2023
The Apple VR/AR headset might be coming later than previously believed. A new analyst report claims Apple's rumored mixed reality headset could be delayed until 2023, doubting earlier tips the device would launch by the end of this year.
Once again according to Gurman (opens in new tab), Apple had reportedly been planning to ship its first AR/VR headset in January 2023 but missed that target, and now the company is reportedly planning on introducing the headset at WWDC this year, in June or shortly before.
Apple was said to be developing true AR glasses after the Reality Pro VR/MR headset, but plans for those may have been delayed in favor of a more cost-effective mixed reality VR headset. This is reportedly following the release of the first expensive Reality Pro model by Apple. We do not have a crystal ball... but, our best estimate is 2024/25 for when we'll finally see true AR glasses announced from Apple.
Apple stock analyst Gene Munster, managing partner with Loup Ventures, believes Apple will introduce its headset in June at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference, known as WWDC. But the product likely won't be available for purchase until late 2022 or possibly 2023, he said.
Both Gurman and Kuo have alluded to a second Apple headset: a pair of smart glasses that would use augmented reality. Information is even more scarce for this rumored device, but it would exist to serve a different audience than a mixed-reality headset. What we do know is that both Gurman and Kuo are predicting this device will be unveiled later than the headset in 2023. 2ff7e9595c
